Just came back from Shanghai and things are really going on the ball! Working in church now...helping out part time and I am just loving what I am doing!
Loving life and enjoying every moment of it! Its my dream life to be able to live such a life!
Working as a hobby and that makes work not really work anymore!
Shanghai has been quite amazing! Was a good rest for me with the good weather and the last 3 days was absolutely perfect as we could just sleep late and I could go to the coffee bar to read my books! that is the perfect holiday man!
Bought a lot of clothes but most of them were for my friends! Didnt really bother trying much clothes in shanghai as was quite down when my mac broke down! It was a terrible 5 days without my computer man!
If you got a chance to go to this city called NANJING, you got to go look at this bridge called the "nanjing da qiao". Hearing stories of how this bridge was build by the metal forks, spoons and bowls of the people of china really moved my heart. In the 50's where the chinese people were really poor, the syrians actually mocked the chinese saying that they will never be able to build such a big bridge. Whatsmore, they said that they will never ever have the resources to do so as they do not have iron and steel.
This really angered the government and the people of China.
However, most of them just went through a time of war and the country was already low on resources. But determined the people were, they gave all the metal ware that their family had and contributed all to the country till a point where many of them had to eat with their hand. Through this project 100,000's of people died through the cold winter where they had to go into the icy cold water to fit the foundations of the bridge.
Today, the nanjing da qiao is build and represents the blood, sweat and tears of the nanjing people that gave 15 years of their lives to building this bridge.
The cost to maintain the bridge a year today cost 100's of million of dollars. It is calculated that, it would have been much cheaper to build a new bridge then to maintain this bridge that just 2 years ago, the government was considering on taking down the bridge. However, when that happened, 1000's of elderly gathered below the bridge to protest of which many of them were either the builders of the bridge or people who had family members sacrifice their life for the building of the bridge. This moved many people that the younger generation that saw the anger in their parents eyes all gave large amounts of money to the government to stop the taking down of this bridge. One reporter saw this old man below the bridge looking at it in a morning and asked this old man what he feels about his bridge and he shared that this was the bridge that he put his whole life into. When the reporter asked what you feel about this bridge being taken down, the old man shouted and looked at the reporter with much anger in his eyes..."who says that this bridge is going to be taken down...never! over my dead body..."
We all live our lives for something! I am glad I am living my life for a greater cause! Something that is worth living for...
